After we had bought CNC machines we were forced to think about a more progressive way of creating programs. We analysed various software makers and at the end we chose EdgeCAM. After some time we could clearly see all advantages of systems CAD-CAM and presently we mainly use the methods of generating programs with the help of this system.


Advantages of EdgeCAM

Why to use the system Edge CAM? One of the reasons for such an investment was the need of manufacturing parts of complex shapes, which is not so visible on the machine itself. The result is a flexible manifacturing system that enables an independent production of programs, yet depending on the work of CMC. Other advantages are the possibility of using tools with dimensions of the machine concerning their life-span, avoiding a brakedown, etc.


How EdgeCAM works

The definition of the shapes is formed by plane curves. The program enables to transfer data from CAD systems in DXF, DWG and IGES formats. Apart from that the shapes can be created in a simple and intuitive two dimensional graphic editor. A volume model is needed for EdgeCam or to make that in the special dimention in Solidwork, which we can make in ProEngineer on the documentation basic (sets with PRT, Solidwork) and sets with (SAT, STEP, IGES). The following and final two steps are only the work of a programmer and the generalization in NC code. With its help the machine shapes.
